PROJECT HISTORY CENTER FOR THE ARTS THE COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND WILLOWBROOK CAMPUS Staten Island, New York

Architects: Edward Durell Stone Associates
Owner: The City University of New York
The Center for Performing and Creative Arts is the heart of a major new urban college campus. The center is packed with acoustically critical spaces including a 900 seat concert hall, 450 seat theater, large recital lecture halls, plus music rehearsal, cinema and broadcast facilities, associated classrooms and support spaces.
Ostergaard Acoustical Associates provided comprehensive consulting services concerning:
Exterior construction to protect performance spaces from aircraft flyover noise caused by nearby Newark International Airport. Space adjacencies to minimize the cost of sound isolating constructions needed to acoustically separate the many performance, broadcast, and music teaching spaces.
Construction types and details to assure effective sound isolation between spaces.
Shaping and finishes for optimum acoustics within the performance and teaching spaces.
HVAC noise and vibration control to assure appropriate background sound levels, which are critical to good hearing and recordings. |
