Scientific Counsel in Acoustics
Dr. Erdreich has specialized in perceptual aspects of noise and is experienced with vibration effects on people and animals. He has 40 years of experience addressing these issues.
He has held positions as a professor in the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He has published numerous articles in technical books and journals.
REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE
- Accident Reconstruction /Evaluation
Simulated accident situations to measure sound levels of warning signals and competing sounds. Evaluated audibility of the warnings and, in the case of moving vehicles, the time for which the warning was audible. Developed and presented examples of the auditory environment of the accident during trials. - Regulatory Experience
Developed national standards for use in lieu of federal regulations. Prepared guidelines for venues in which speech intelligibility is critical including the Federal Courts Design Guide (acoustic guidelines) and American National Standard for Classroom Acoustics. - Occupational Hearing Loss
Carried out independent evaluation of claims for compensation for occupational hearing loss by comparing the degree of impairment, age, gender, and exposure of the claimant with the hearing levels of similar national and international populations. Also, for cohorts of claimants, evaluated their exposure and impairments against the available national and international databases. For many industrial situations, reconstructed the employee’s exposure retrospectively. Presented testimony in state, federal, and worker compensation courts. - Land Use Development
Supported private and municipal developers to qualify projects for approval for Federal funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. - Biological Effects of Vibration
Assisted defense team to evaluate OSHA investigation of hand-arm vibration in a turbine repair facility. Investigated vibration effects on heavy machinery operators. Evaluated potential effects of construction and blasting vibration on laboratory animals.
